I found him

Shezi Logo3-05.pngNow I know I have written an article before about the amazing Dj Kaznova who is a ladies man, but now I found the actual ladies magnet, ladies you can thank me later. He’s name is Mfanelo Shezi born in KZN then relocated to Johannesburg with his family, while the influence of music was gradually being passed on from his father, a die-hard jazz lover. Mfanelo also known as DJ CASSANOVA is a jazz lover growing up in a musical family surrounded by musos such as his saxophonist uncle who also participated in his music love affair. According to well prominent philosophers learning is ‘a change of behaviour from a a previous experience’ Cassanova’s music is solely inspired by the people around him and experiences he has delved in and learnt from, I bet you never thought Dj’s composted hits from experiences? He has made a name of himself as an upcoming Dj because of his attention to detail and the growth of the music industry in South Africa,

I look at what’s happening around me and then I look for what’s missing’

‘Start doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible’ – Francis of Assisi

Nowadays most people have had the experience of growing up in a household that loved music, but this recollection in Cassanova’s life didn’t just remain as a memory but grew into a full time career, opening the pathway to a lasting and influential friendship with his best friend BOOMBOOMBASS also know as, the son of Oskido, Bass Mdlongwa. Together with BOOMBOOMBASS Cassanova channels his focus on a new genre which is a mixture of Kwaito, Hip-hop and Jazz, passing on the message of originality and devotion to one’s dream and ambitions. This movement was fully put into action with their new hit single ‘EYE SPY’ which is being broadcasted on all music channels across Africa. With their ambitions manifesting and Oskido as their mentor, the limit is the sky

I for one am excited to see what else this duet has to offer to the music industry, I need some more old skool music to listen to. Cassanova is well known for performing at the hottest clubs and bars around Gauteng so look out for his location on all social media pages at;

Tonya Harding’s story head to the big screen!

Two triple axels, various ice skating records and all the technique in the world, means absolutely nothing when overshadowed by one of the most sensational scandals of all time. I, TONYA is based on the true events behind this spectacle and will keep you glued to your seat until the very end.

Former figure skating champion, Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie), was well on her way to becoming one of the world’s biggest ice skating legends. This competitive ice skater has been ambitious and goal-driven from an early age. Her first big breakthrough came in 1991, when she won (with her first triple axel) the U.S. Championships and was awarded the event’s first 6.0 ever given to a single female skater for technical merit. At the 1991 World Championships, she again completed the triple axel (becoming the first American woman to perform it at an international event), but finished second to Kristi Yamaguchi. Unfortunately that is not what she is remembered for. Her dreams and career were shattered by her alleged association with an infamous, ill-conceived, and even more poorly executed attack on fellow Olympic competitor, Nancy Kerrigan (Caitlin Carver), by her ex-husband (Sebastian Stan) and bodyguard (Paul Walter Hauser).

I, TONYA is a darkly comedic drama, written by Steven Rogers (Hope Floats, Stepmom), that tells the tale of a talented sport star whose success is destroyed by her troubled childhood, her mother’s abuse and her stormy relationships. This gripping film, directed by Graig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl, Fright Night), has not yet been released in South Africa but has already received various nominations from film festivals across the globe, including   Best Feature Film and Best Actress at the Gotham Awards in November 2017, as well as Best Female Lead, Best Supporting Female and Best Editing (Tatiana S. Riegel) by the Independent Spirit Awards, taking place in March 2018. Allison Janney, who portrays the role of Tonya’s heartless and abusive mother – LaVona Golden – has also won an Award for Best Supporting Actress at the Hollywood Film Awards. This acclaimed stage actress, is known for her roles in The West Wing, American Beauty and Juno.

Furthermore, the film also boasts an excellent cast and has already received a lot of praise for outstanding performances by the lead characters. Margot Robbie, known for movies such as About Time, The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus, The Legend of Tarzan and Suicide Squad, is commended for her soulful portrayal of Tonya Harding in this fascinating story, while Sebastian Stan can be seen in the role of her ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly. This handsome actor, from New York, previously featured in several television shows, such as Law and Order and Gossip Girl, and also starred in the Captain America Franchise, Riki and the Flash, The Martian and many more.

Although it initially seems like the movie is actually a comedic spoof of the heartlessness of a tabloid driven nation, you soon realise that it is about more than meets the eye.

I, TONYA promises to captivate audiences, not only because of outstanding acting and direction, but also because it proves the innocence of a woman who was judged by the world and abused by those who were supposed to love her most. “This movie returns Tonya to being what she always was: a great skater, and a human being with a dream of downscale flash that wouldn’t quit until it was pried away from her by the world,” says Variety’s Owen Gleiberman.

The movie is distributed by Ster-Kinekor Entertainment and will be released in cinemas on 16 February 2018.

Heineken Opens Johannesburg with Kwesta & Wale

Urban dwellers have been stepping out of their comfort zones and rediscovering their cities with Heineken®, the world’s leading international premium beer. To kick start the #OpenYourCity movement, Heineken® hosted a series of epic city explorations in Jo’burg, Cape Town and Durban where consumers were challenged to take a break from their mundane routines and embrace the unexpected. Heineken® took them on an incredible journey through their city, with stop-offs at a number of undisclosed (and unexpected) locations.

The final #OpenYourCity event was held on Saturday, December 9th at the iconic Old Park Station in Newtown, Johannesburg.

Invited guests were given very little information about the event and were notified of the location only a few days before – a challenge to step out of their comfort zones and embrace the unknown. On the night, the brand served up ‘red star treatment’; a visual firework spectacle opened the city like never before; and local and international artists, Kwesta and Wale lit-up the stage.

The one-of-a-kind collaboration between Kwesta and Wale included the first-ever live performance of the chart-topping hit, Spirit. The award-winning Black Coffee, Euphonik, Ms Cosmo, DJ Capital, DJ Franky, DJ Banques, TMO, and a number of other notable DJs concluded the line-up to ensure that guests experienced the best local talent. Television presenter and model KNaomi MC’d the event alongside YFM’s drive time presenter DJ Sabby. Others in attendance included friends of the brand Minnie Dlamini; Chris Jafta and Sandile Ntshingila as well as Dineo Moeketsi, Solo and Lungile Shabalala.

“The Open Your City campaign has seen consumers engage in a series of activations filled with intrigue and excitement, which has changed the way our Heineken® fans view their cities. By partnering with premium venues and the country’s leading DJ’s and influencers throughout the campaign, we made sure everyone had only the best experiences, and I’m proud to say that Newtown was no different,” says Heineken® South Africa Marketing Manager, Themba Ratsibe.

If you didn’t make it to one of the #OpenYourCity events, it’s not too late to take part. Purchase any Heineken, use the unique code on the underliner/pull tab and you could stand a chance to win a once in a lifetime trip to Miami or other prizes including Uber vouchers or the opportunity to open your city with an Entertainer app subscription.

KULI ROBERTS, Grrr…

As I look out through the glass door of the Doppio Zero restaurant where the who is who dine, situated in the posh area of Southdowns I see as if a canvas painting is forming, a gorgeous woman in a forest green outfit with flowy wavy long hair and armed with killer heels and oversized designer shades strutting on a Miraj runway towards the door, what an entrance. Legions of eyes loom her way as she asks in a deep husky mesmerizing voice for a table outside and she sits down oozing sex appeal and class, Grrr!

In between her pronto meal we continue to talk and Oh what a character! Bubbly, sociable and wild like the tigress she is. What a free spirit she posses, one that can not be tamed simply full of life, this is KuIi Roberts.

FB_IMG_1512966642495

A feisty woman in the fashion world who looks and lives the part. Kuli Roberts is her own rule maker, she sets her own guidelines. She is fierce, funny and unapologetically entertaining. This media personality is proud of who she is and her roots, ” I am a black African woman, what is dark/black from your country of Zimbabwe? Come on go for it, give me a name that means black or dark?” Larger than life attitude and the way she says it beautifully hilarious indeed. Queen (Sviba) she’s named. How do you spell that? I ask. Claudine hesitates and she says, “You can not spell girl” Grrr… she laughs out loud and blows a kiss my way.

On a panel with three other presenters, Pabi Moloi, Nina Hastie and Musa Mthombeni. Kuli tackles issues currently trending on social media platforms on SABC 3. A show that is informative and entertaining. All presenters bringing their own individuality, therefore, complimenting each other perfectly. If Kuli could be linked to a dish she would be the spice that bursts out with flavour, sweet and sour. Shooting straight like an arrow, either you like her or you don’t, the difference is the same, she is an absolute angel.

Being the woman she is, she has reinvented herself countless times and each time is the best version of herself. Each passing year as she grows older she somehow becomes younger. Being grandma added to her long list of accomplishments you can easily say she’s the mom to her grand child, that is how great she looks, just maybe she found the fountain of youth!

Kuli Roberts is one of South Africa’s most influential people around, she has seen the ugly side but has turned around and made it beautiful, do it all and she gives her all, a force to be reckoned with, a priceless gem indeed.

BREATHE – An inspiring love story of hope and determination

What would you do if your husband’s life suddenly changed irrevocably and he is about to give up hope? You take over and give him strength to go on by loving him unconditionally, just like Diana Cavendish (Claire Foy) did in this inspiring true story that is coming to life on the big screen soon.

BREATHE is actor, Andy Serkis’s (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Rise, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) directorial debut and he worked very closely with scriptwriter, William Nicholson (Gladiator, Les Misérables, First Knight) to tell this story of his best friend and producer, Johnathan Cavendish’s (Bridget Jones’s Diary, Elizabeth: The Golden Age) parents with the sensitivity and empathy that it deserved.

Adventurous and charismatic, Robin Cavendish (Andrew Garfield) has his whole life ahead of him when he is paralysed by polio whilst in Africa at the age of twenty-eight. Against all advice, Robin’s wife Diana brings him home from hospital where her devotion and witty determination transcends his disability. Together they refuse to be imprisoned by his suffering; dazzling others with their humour, courage and lust for life. They also use their own story to inspire other people who are going through similar circumstances. Clever technology makes it possible for Robin to ‘get out of bed’ and experience new adventures and enables him to become an advocate for disabled people across the world.

The movie, which is set in the 1950’s, not only boasts a beautiful set and costume design, but also a star-studded cast. Andrew Garfield, who plays Robin, is famous for his roles in The Social Network, Never Let Me Go, The Amazing Spider-Man and Silence. Claire Foy, who is praised for her accurate portrayal of Diana Cavendish, starred in Season of the Witch and Going Postal. “The most important thing to get was their love for each other. I didn’t want to over-sentimentalise her; and she definitely doesn’t want to be seen as a saint, or an angel, or incredible sort of nurse. It was actually just true love,” says Foy about getting into character for this part. Hugh Bonneville, who has already been nominated for BAFTA, Emmy and Golden Globe awards for his role in Downtown Abbey, and Tom Hollander (Mission Impossible, About Time, Pirates of the Caribbean) can also be seen in the movie.

The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and was also screened at the Opening Night Gala at the BFI London Film Festival. It has already been nominated for an Archie Award for Best First Feature at the Philadelphia Film Festival and Best Makeup and Hair Design and Sound at the Independent British Film Awards. During the Heartland Film Festival, it won the Truly Moving Picture Award.

BREATHE is a heart-warming and highly emotional celebration of bravery and human possibility, a love story about living every breath as though it’s your last. It will appeal to audiences of all ages, but especially if you enjoyed The Theory of Everything, Lion, The Imitation Game and Brooklyn.

This inspirational movie is distributed by Ster-Kinekor Entertainment and will be released in cinemas on 19 January 2018.

The Talented Marli

1997 is the year that Marli was born in Potchefstroom and with her birth, South Africa got a new musical talent.

Currently, Marli is taking vocal training from Jolanda Becker Vocal Lab and guitar training from Debbi Lonmon. Marli can remember the lyrics to a song almost insanely, and she says that like the birds chirping in the trees she hears and feels music all around her. This might be one of the reasons that her own songs like Jodel, As liefde oortree, Dans in die reen and Val vir jou are doing so exceptionally well amongst listeners.

Marli has also performed with Manuel Escorcio!

2018 will be another big year for Marli as it marks the release of her debut album!
